lston is easy to locate from which ever direction you are
traveling. Apart from good road links, Alston is only half an hours drive
east of Penrith station on the West Coast mainline railway (London
Euston). To the east is Hexham station (half an hours drive) which
connects with Newcastle Central Station on the East Coast mainline (London
Kings Cross). Newcastle International Airport is only 50 minutes drive to
the east and Manchester Airport is a relaxed 2 hour drive to the south on
the M6 motorway.
If you're travelling from the south east turn
left at Scotch Corner on the A1 and travel westwards on the A66 until a
signpost for Barnard Castle. Turn right and follow the signs for the
B6277, Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale. When you reach
Middleton-in-Teesdale turn left at the junction in the town and keep on
the B6277. When you reach Alston (after passing through dramatic
countryside) drive down the cobbled main street and turn left at the
bottom of the road. The Cumberland Hotel is on the right.

is a little way along on the left just past the garage.
